Overview of the Community-Based Services Redesign

Get involved with the CBS Redesign by submitting a feedback form.

In 2022, the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) engaged Mathematica and The Harkin Institute to complete a community-based services evaluation (CBSE) to find out how Iowans’ access and use services within Iowa Medicaid and Mental Health and Disability Services regions. Through the CBSE and other initiatives, Iowa HHS seeks to improve equitable access to high-quality, community-based behavioral health, disability and aging services.

Iowa HHS published the results of the CBSE in a Final Evaluation Report in early 2023, which includes recommendations on how Iowa HHS might transform community-based services (CBS)..

The team also developed a Transformation Plan as a guide to act on these recommendations.

To implement recommendations, Iowa HHS is offering virtual and in-person feedback sessions to gather insights from the community. Review details about upcoming feedback sessions and submit an interest form if you would like to take part. Continue to check the Community-Based Services Redesign web page and Iowa Medicaid’s Twitter and Facebook pages for updates on progress, decisions, achievement of milestones, upcoming activities, resources and more! We will also include upcoming feedback opportunities on the Iowa HHS public calendar. Contact the Mathematica-Harkin team with any questions: iowahcbs@mathematica-mpr.com.
