According to the National Center for Healthy Housing, a healthy home is a home designed, constructed, maintained, or rehabilitated in a manner that supports the health of residents. Housing conditions can significantly affect public health. Childhood lead poisoning, injuries, respiratory diseases such as asthma, and quality of life issues have been linked to substandard housing nationwide.
The Iowa Department of Public Health works closely with public health agencies and housing departments to address healthy homes issues in Iowa. For specific information on healthy homes issues in your community contact your local public health agency.
