Iowa Department of Health and Human Services

Bureau of Professional Licensure

As of July 1, 2023,  Professional Licensing and other health and occupational licenses will become part of the Iowa Department of Inspections,  Appeals, and Licensing (DIAL) as a new organizational structure for state government goes into effect. Government departments and agencies that provide related services or have similar business functions are aligning to better serve Iowans.  You can expect the same quality services you get now from HHS to continue as usual.

Who We Are

The Bureau of Professional Licensure is a Bureau within the Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals.

The mission of the professional boards is to protect the public health, safety and welfare by licensing qualified individuals and enforcing Iowa's statutes and administrative rules fairly and consistently.

Red Tape Review

Gov. Kim Reynolds signed Executive Order Number 10 on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, putting a moratorium on administrative rulemaking and instituting a comprehensive review of all existing administrative rules.   The administrative rules related to the professional licensing boards under the purview of the Department are available at the link below.
