Public Notice: Multiple Procedure Payment Reduction for Therapy Services

The Iowa Department of Human Services (DHS), pursuant to the requirements outlined in 42 C.F.R. §447.205 and §1902(a)(13)(A) of the Social Security Act, hereby gives notice of the following proposed action regarding its methods and standards for payment of certain therapy services.

Iowa Medicaid applies a payment reduction provision when more than one therapy procedure or unit of service within the same therapy discipline or same plan of care is performed by the same provider or provider group for an individual on the same date of service.

This proposed amendment revises the current multiple procedure payment reduction percentage (MPPR) of 10% applied to the full Medicaid fee schedule amount to 50% of the practice expense component portion only for "always therapy" services effective the first day of the month 60 days following approval from the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
