Regulatory Programs - Plumbing & Mechanical Systems Board

As of July 1, 2023,  Professional Licensing and other health and occupational licenses will become part of the Iowa Department of Inspections,  Appeals, and Licensing (DIAL) as a new organizational structure for state government goes into effect. Government departments and agencies that provide related services or have similar business functions are aligning to better serve Iowans.  You can expect the same quality services you get now from HHS to continue as usual. 

This page reflects the application process for individuals and businesses who need to apply to take an exam or obtain a license to practice the following professions in Iowa. The license types and trades available are:

  • Apprentice, Journeyperson, or Master
  • Contractors in Plumbing, HVAC/R, Hydronics, or Mechanical Systems
  • Plumbing
  • HVAC/Refrigeration
  • Hydronics
  • Mechanical Systems
  • Medical Gas System Installer Certification
  • Disconnect/Reconnect Plumbing Technician Specialty License
  • Hearth Systems Specialty License
  • Private School or College Routine Maintenance Specialty License
  • Service Technician HVAC Specialty License

Renew an Existing Individual License:

Once you have reviewed the instructions above you may proceed to the Regulatory Programs Licensing Portal to CREATE A NEW ACCOUNT or  LOG IN WITH YOUR EXISTING A&A ACCOUNT (@IOWAID).

NOTE: You need to complete the renewal process for both your contractor license and your individual license on the same day in order to receive the discount.

Once you have reviewed the instructions above you may proceed to the Regulatory Programs Licensing Portal to CREATE A NEW ACCOUNT or  LOG IN WITH YOUR EXISTING A&A ACCOUNT (@IOWAID).
