Iowa Swimming Pools and Spas - Swimmer Safety

As of July 1, 2023,  Professional Licensing and other health and occupational licenses will become part of the Iowa Department of Inspections,  Appeals, and Licensing (DIAL) as a new organizational structure for state government goes into effect. Government departments and agencies that provide related services or have similar business functions are aligning to better serve Iowans.  You can expect the same quality services you get now from HHS to continue as usual.

Kids jumping in pool

The Swimming Pool and Spa Program recognizes the importance of swimming and recreational activities for promoting good physical and mental health and enhancing the quality of life. Playing in the water - whether swimming, boating or diving can be fun. It can also be dangerous, especially for children and weak swimmers. There are many health concerns related to swimming pools and spas, including transmission of disease, injuries, and the potential for drowning. Healthy swimming behaviors will help protect you and your kids from recreational water illnesses (RWIs) and help stop germs from getting in the pool in the first place. Being safe in and around water can help prevent injuries and drowning. For additional information please visit:
