Heat-related illness hospitalizations include the number of people who were admitted to the hospital for heat-related illness. Heat-related illness hospital admissions tend to be for more severe cases and do not include heat illness among individuals who do not receive medical care, who are not hospitalized, or who are treated in outpatient settings. Advanced options include age group, and gender. Due to the small number of cases data are only available at the state level.

Measure Description:
- The Count of Hospitalizations is the number of inpatient hospital admissions with any diagnosis or injury code for heat-related illness from May through September.
- The Crude Rate (Per 100K) is the rate of inpatient hospital admissions with any diagnosis or injury code for heat-related illness from May through September per 100,000 Population.
- The Age Adjusted Rate (Per 100K) is the age adjusted rate of inpatient hospital admissions with any diagnosis or injury code heat-related illness from May through September per 100,000 Population. Age adjustment to the 2000 Standard US Census is done to allow direct comparison of rates in counties and state with different population age distributions.
