WIC Breastfeeding Support

WIC staff across the state are trained and qualified to provide breastfeeding support to WIC participants. Iowa WIC strongly encourages all nurses and dietitians to obtain extended breastfeeding credentials such as International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC), Certified Lactation Specialist (CLS) or others, and assists staff with obtaining these credentials. Staff attend ongoing breastfeeding training opportunities annually to learn about current best practices for providing breastfeeding support to WIC families.
