(DES MOINES, Iowa) – The Department of Human Services (DHS) has a new resource for stakeholders to understand how the state’s Medicaid program operates.
The 2021 Iowa Medicaid Reference Guide provides an overview of both the state’s Medicaid program as well as the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), including program eligibility, covered services, state oversight, budget development, and the governing framework of the programs. Medicaid serves more than 700,000 individuals, or about 1 in 4 Iowans.
The guide will be shared with state legislators to help inform their decisions on program operations and enhancements.
Medicaid programs and policies are constantly evolving at the federal and state level. As such, DHS will update the Iowa Medicaid Reference Guide annually before each legislative session. Stakeholders can find the latest information on program and policy changes on the Department’s website. The Department also is working on a supplemental guide focused on future goals and performance measures of Medicaid.
The 2021 Iowa Medicaid Reference Guide is the latest in a series of public resources DHS has created to be more transparent about its programs and services.
