Introduction to PASRR

Every state’s Medicaid plan must maintain a compliant Preadmission Screening and Resident Review (PASRR) program.

Individuals looking to enter a Medicaid certified nursing facility must be screened for evidence of serious mental illness and/or intellectual disability, developmental disabilities, or related conditions.

A nursing facility must not admit an applicant who has a qualifying condition listed above without the completion of a PASRR.

Introduction to PASRR Training

Purpose of PASRR

The intent of PASRR is to ensure that all nursing facilities applicants are thoroughly evaluated, that they are placed in nursing facilities only when appropriate, that they receive all necessary services while in a nursing facility, including any supports that might assist them in transitioning to a lower level of care.
