The Statewide Child Care Solutions Fund was created in partnership with the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) Foundation to help make sure child care is available for Iowans. It will expand on the local child care solution funds which are managed by local economic development offices, actively seek annual contributions from small businesses, local governments and community members. The Statewide Child Care Solutions Fund provides corporations and large businesses with a unique opportunity to invest in quality child care services across multiple Iowa counties.
The Iowa Economic Development Authority (“IEDA Foundation”) is a separate, nonprofit corporation incorporated under Iowa Code chapter 504A. The IEDA Foundation is statutorily authorized under Iowa Code sections 15E.11-15E.16. The creation of the corporation is authorized for the purpose of “receiving and disbursing funds from public or private sources to be used to further the overall development and well-being of the state.”
Because contributions to the IEDA Foundation are exclusively for public purposes, they are deductible charitable contributions under section 170(c)(1) of the Internal Revenue Code.
The statewide fund consists of two types of investments:
Restricted: These funds will be allocated by the state to regional solutions funds as directed.
Unrestricted: These funds will enable the state to provide a 2:1 match for regional solutions funds, amplifying the impact of local investments.
