Overview
Iowa Medicaid now provides training and support for Long-Term Services and Support (LTSS) providers and case managers. The Iowa Legislature has allocated funds for yearly evaluation of this support for various LTSS service providers, including home-based programs, rehabilitation services, habilitation services, home health, hospice, Money Follows the Person program, nursing/personal care, elderly care, and case management.

Home Transition for Case Managers – Training Series
Sessions will focus on strengthening support for case managers by reviewing current resources, clarifying processes, and providing updates on HOME implementation as it relates directly to case management processes.
- Training Audience: Case Managers, Targeted Case Managers, Case Management Supervisors, MFP Transition Specialists, and other case management oversight staff.

Working with Children – Best Practices in Serving Kids
Monday, July 13th | 1:00 - 2:30 PM
Working effectively with children requires understanding their unique strengths, needs, and support systems. This training provides practical insights into common developmental and medical conditions, along with strategies for partnering with families and coordinating services to support children’s growth and well-being.

Organizational Change - Management and Behavioral Analysis Strategies

Examine how observable behaviors at the individual, group, and organizational levels impact business results, and learn practical behavior analysis strategies to support effective organizational change.

Person-Centered Planning for HCBS Providers
Wednesday, August 12th | 1:00 – 3:00 PM
This training equips HCBS providers with practical strategies for person-centered planning, clarifies provider and interdisciplinary team roles, and demonstrates how to create goals and supplemental plans that support individual needs while maintaining the integrity of the person-centered service plan.

- Learning Objectives:
- Build person-centered planning skills with HCBS providers.
- Learn person-centered approaches to goal development.
- Understand person-centered approaches to due process for restrictive interventions, including rights restrictions.
- Clarify the roles and expectations of the HCBS provider and interdisciplinary team, as they relate to developing and implementing the person-centered service plan.
- Explain how to appropriately develop, integrate, and use supplemental plans (such as provider-created plans, behavior intervention plans, and crisis or emergency plans) so they support—without replacing—the person-centered service plan.
Building Pathways Forward: A Goals Workshop
Thursday, August 20th | 1:00 – 3:00 PM
Every goal needs a pathway forward. In this interactive LTSS-focused workshop, participants will explore how to turn goals into meaningful action by setting realistic goals, identifying barriers, mapping out practical next steps, and preparing for challenges along the way. Participants will leave with tools and strategies to move forward with greater confidence, flexibility, and purpose.

- Describe how goal setting can support better care and outcomes within Long-Term Services and Supports (LTSS).
- Identify realistic goals that promote well-being, stability, and collaboration in LTSS-related work.
- Recognize barriers that may interfere with progress toward goals.
- Develop pathways and next steps for moving goals into action.
- Apply goal-setting strategies to strengthen communication, problem-solving, and support planning within LTSS environments.
Technical Assistance (TA)

Free Competency-Based training and Technical Assistance (TA) are offered to providers to enhance positive outcomes for both members and providers. This support helps providers understand compliance with state and federal regulations, improves competency in direct support roles, and enhances statewide access to information.
LTSS providers statewide can request TA, which may include tailored education and support based on their specific needs. Requests for TA can come from LTSS providers, training participants, Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) Specialists, Department staff, or others.

4. Competency-based learning with objectives to ensure training topics are relevant to and useful to the agency’s needs
