Criminal and Juvenile Justice Planning (CJJP) was established in Iowa Code Chapter 216A to develop goals to improve justice systems, identify and analyze justice system issues, including the impact of present policy and make recommendations for policy change, and assist others in implementing recommendations and plan for justice system improvement among other duties outlined in Iowa Code.
CJJP also administers federal and state grant programs to fund local and state projects to prevent juvenile crime, provide services to juvenile offenders and otherwise improve Iowa's juvenile justice system. This funding is made available through competitive and allocation grant application procedures.
CJJP carries out its duties under the oversight of the Juvenile Justice Advisory Council.
Juvenile Delinquency Data
As a convenience for those interested in juvenile justice data, Criminal & Juvenile Justice Planning (CJJP) has launched a website where that data can be accessed:
- Easy Access to Juvenile Court Data (EZAJCD) - This website provides access to multiple years of juvenile court key decision points, including information on the Judicial District, county and demographics of juveniles. The data are collected from Iowaβs eight Judicial District Juvenile Court Services offices. Results are provided in aggregated, crosstab tables.
This information is provided through the Justice Data Warehouse (JDW), a central repository of key criminal and juvenile justice information received from the Judicial Branch, Department of Corrections, and the Department of Health and Human Services. The JDW is located on a platform within the Department of Management, Division of Data, Planning, and Improvement. The mission of the JDW is to provide the justice information to system officials, the legislature, and the general public, and to provide decision-makers with improved statistical information about justice system activities.
