What is Medicaid?
Medicaid is a program that helps people pay for health care. In Iowa, it provides health coverage to over 700,000 people each year. This includes people with low income, children, pregnant women, older adults, and people with disabilities.
Medicaid coverage offers you:
- Affordable private health insurance plans that offer comprehensive coverage to help you stay well
- A new tax credit that can immediately help pay your premiums for health coverage
- Free or low-cost insurance from Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP)
Medicaid is run by each state, but it follows rules from the federal government. Both the state and federal governments help pay for it.
Iowa Medicaid has different teams that each focus on a special part of the program. They all work together to help members stay healthy.
