Anyone who develops symptoms should call their healthcare provider before seeking care and inform them of their potential measles exposure. Calling ahead helps prevent additional exposures in healthcare settings.

Measles is highly contagious and can spread to people who are not immune. Vaccination remains the most effective way to prevent measles. Iowans who are unsure of their immunity are encouraged to contact their healthcare provider or local public health agency.

Additional exposure locations will be posted as they are identified on the Iowa HHS measles information page. Individuals identified as close contacts may also be notified directly by public health officials.
